after the pennine way ...

... i'm home and dry.
nearly 3 weeks of walking and no real chance to sketch any landscapes, which was my intention at the beginning. due to rain and other circumstances (like walking all day and injecting snickers every now and then) i hardly found the time to doodle, but a few i did on resting-days and after the whole thing was done ...
carrying a sketchbook for over 400 kilometers in the rucksack , stupid me but hey ...

got you anyway paddy; and if you read this, thanks a lot for picking up two smelly, dirty, worn out hobos. ;)

bought an artbook by ashley wood in newcastle and just couldnt escape the inspiration ...

portrait sketches

did a few quick portraits to get more familiar with the subject again.
the people werent really sitting for those, i was just watching and sketching along at the table here and there.
one with watercolours and pencil, the other two with ballpen and cigarette ashes ;)

portrait session ...

after the first 40 minutes sketch ...
i dont know where this is going, but i am sure it will take a few more sessions and hours to complete ...

storyboarding vertigo scene 1

after reading hans bacher's "dream worlds" i decided to do an exercise, which is strongly recommended there: choose a movie (let it be a good one) and draw it shot for shot. i chose hitchcock's vertigo and began straight from the beginning. here is the first scene, which still has more detail than planned, but then again its an important action scene;
i hope i will be going on faster and less detailed for further scenes ...
anyway it's amazing to see the compositions and storytelling-flow and discover all the little things and maneuvers "hidden" in the pictures ...

selfportrait

didnt really have the time for it, but i had the strong urge to do a selfportrait these days, so here it is ... 50 x 70 cm pencil, crayon, gouache and watercolour on wooden board ... i think i like the feeling of "drawing on canvas" ...

18.05.2008

rehearsal ...

my flatmate and 2 good friends were playing accoustic songversions and i decided to join them for some sketches. great evening, i really enjoyed that ... some beers, some talking and livemusic while sketching away ... what more could one want :)

16.05.2008

back from jordan ...

did a small trip to jordan and spent most of the time in the desert of wadi rum in the middle of nowwhere, which was an absolutely mindblowing experience; peaceful and timeless.
i went there mostly for hiking and exploring ancient petra; not for painting or anything, but i did a few fast sketches along the way, here are some of them

24.04.2008

fast ...

... and dirty ... anyway, i like the mood in it so it gets posted ;)
"any fool knows, a dog needs a home ..."

22.04.2008

life drawing ...

... about 15 minutes each ...
never did much of that kind of exercise in my life,
which is quite a poor statement.
lesson learned, i'll keep at it ;)

did this sketch in PS for a 80x60 canvas, of which i will take a photo as soon as i can get my hands on some good camera, it did turn out a bit different ;)
heavily inspired by iceland ...
